Meet Chief Operations Officer Peta Waters

As the Chief Operations Officer of Home Nursing Group (HNG), Peta Waters says her work colleagues make coming to work easy, a sure-fire indication of the type of workplace the organisation offers. With more people than ever wishing to remain in their own homes, Peta says it’s a wonderfully rewarding time to be in the Aged Care sector.

Born and bred in Guyra, Peta knows the Armidale region like the back of her hand. Attending PLC in Armidale for high school, the committed grandmother then studied nursing at Armidale Hospital as one of the last group of hospital trained nurses, working in Primary Health as a Practice Nurse and then delivering preventative health and wellbeing education to local communities. Peta joined HNG five years ago, originally as a care and support coordinator before rising to care manager and finally, as the Chief Operations Officer (COO), based in the Armidale office. “As the COO I form part of the executive team that works on strategic direction and leadership for the business,” she says. “I manage the operations team which comprises of Quality and Safety, Clinical Governance, Customer Service, Registered Nurses, Care Managers and the Care and Support Coordinators that form our service delivery team. HNG’s footprint ranges from Tamworth, Armidale, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie down to Taree.”

HNG’s reputation as a fantastic place of employment preceded it. “I heard about Home Nursing Group through former work colleagues that were employed here and they told me it was a great place to work,” Peta says. “HNG gives you the opportunity to develop your skills and to have career progression. We are passionate how we deliver in home care to our clients and strive to work to our values of TREAT: trust, respect, empathy, accountability and teamwork. My work colleagues make coming to work easy; we all want the same outcome for our clients by delivering services that assist them to remain at home and we pride ourselves that this care is exceptional.”
HNG delivers services that meet a vast spectrum of needs, from entry level services such as domestic assistance, right through to high care level 4 Home Care packages. “Clients can stay with HNG for their entire home care journey with the confidence in knowing that our staff are fully trained. We also have a higher than industry average of registered nurses to deliver clinical services and support as needed,” Peta says. “The Aged care industry is such a rewarding career choice; more people want to remain at home so as an aged care worker you really make a difference.”

Life is busy for the family-orientated mother, who lists her family, pets, gardening and sport as her key passions. Living 40-kilometres from work means the day starts early, with group fitness classes at Sisbok often on the morning agenda. “It’s good for fitness, wellbeing and friendships, although with present restrictions to group fitness zoom classes and walking has filled the space,” she says. “The afternoons may include picking up our granddaughter from day care, working in the garden and letting the dogs off for a run. Winter time of course means stoking up the fire in preparation for the frosty Guyra nights.”
