Assistant In Nursing

Position Description

This position shall work autonomously in providing individualised high quality care to clients in accordance with accepted nursing practice and standards. The position will ensure that all care is provided in a caring and respectful way and will participate in services with the Home Nursing Group team to ensure equitable service delivery of home nursing services. Duties provided may include personal care, social support or domestic assistance

The position reports directly to the Regional Manager.

• Hours: Casual
• Probationary period: 3 months

Position Responsibilities

The incumbent will work under the broad direction of the Regional Manager, however specific responsibilities will include:-

1. Provide a range of flexible services which may include personal hygiene, providing meals, house cleaning and other health and wellness related activities to clients living in their own home.
2. Provide respite services for carer’s of clients with identified needs.
3. Provide transport or escort clients to appointments and activities as required.
4. Assist clients with exercises, physiotherapy and other medical plans as required.
5. Monitor physical conditions of clients as required and follow medical instructions carefully and consistently.
6. Complete appropriate documentation as required.
7. Communicate effectively with the clinical team.
8. Interact and collaborate effectively with all members of the care team to contribute to the delivery of quality care for all clients.
9. Respond to altered client health or home status by informing the Regional Manager.
10. Report and manage unanticipated events or unstable situations as directed by the Regional Manager.
11. The capacity and willingness to update knowledge and undertake formal opportunities for training and skills improvement.
12. Provide the appropriate level of supervision for new staff and assist to develop skills and confidence as relevant to Home Nursing Group.
13. Adhere to the policies, principles and procedures of HNG in accordance with stated organisational policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential

• Certificate III in Aged Care or Home & Community Care (or equivalent).
• Ablility to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• Current First Aid certificate
•  Current CPR certificate
• Demonstrated understanding of WHS and EEO principles as they relate to position.
• Current unencumbered NSW Driver’s License with own registered and insured vehicle.
• Current National Police Check.
• A strong commitment to working with frail aged people and people with disabilities.
• Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
• Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.
• Demonstrated effective communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to interact positively with clients from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
• Experience working in an aged care and/or community setting
• Ability for weekend and after-hours work, as required.
