Last week the University of the 3rd Age Armidale (U3AA) celebrated their 25th anniversary. The U3AA is part of a worldwide volunteer based organisation that encourages lifelong learning for seniors. The Armidale club is fortunate to boast a membership of 600 people and offer approximately 60 courses annually.

The special anniversary luncheon was held at the Armidale City Bowling Club and around 160 members were able to attend. The celebration consisted of an entertaining performance from the Armchair Theatre group of Chekov’s play ‘The Bear’, a short demonstration of Armchair Yoga by Bron Baker, and a long lunch.

Home Nursing Group (HNG) was one of the sponsors of this special event and are proud to be supporting an organisation that encourages older community members to continue to use, and develop their skills into their senior years. Exercise, education and social interaction, are all contributing influences to a happy and healthy ageing process.

Like the U3AA, HNG continues to support older people to enjoy life and assist older people to maintain community connections and activities. Amazingly, the U3AA courses are free to its current members and the organisation is completely run by volunteers.
